10 key projects to mark 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City

(NLDO) - 10 key projects to mark 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City have a combined estimated investment of more than VND381.326 trillion.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction announced that, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Saigon-Gia Dinh officially and honorably being renamed Ho Chi Minh City (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026), the city will focus on completing all necessary procedures and ensuring that all required conditions are met to break ground on 10 key projects before July 2, 2026. 

The projects have a combined estimated investment of more than VND381.326 trillion.

Ho Chi Minh City will break ground on the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway, starting at the An Phu intersection

Among the largest projects is the 41.8-km Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway line, which is estimated to cost around VND175 trillion. The project will be implemented under the build-transfer (BT) model during the 2026–2030 period.

The city also plans to break ground on a sea-crossing transport link connecting Can Gio with the former Ba Ria-Vung Tau area. Spanning more than 14 km and comprising bridges, tunnels and approach roads, the project is expected to require an investment of approximately VND92.663 trillion. It is scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2029 under the BT model.

The sea-crossing bridge connecting Can Gio with the former Ba Ria - Vung Tau is also set to break ground this July 2.

Another major transport project is the Ho Tram-Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway, a 42-km route featuring six expressway lanes and parallel service roads on both sides. 

The project is expected to require a total investment of VND51.516 trillion and is scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2029.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City will launch the Ben Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and Saigon River Public Green Space Project, with a total estimated investment of around VND30 trillion.

The project is planned across five core zones and includes the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh Museum complex, the development of cultural, artistic and sports facilities, the construction of new transport infrastructure, and the expansion of public spaces and the riverside park system along the Saigon River.

In addition, the city will commence construction of the Binh Tien bridge-road project, covering the 3.2-km section from Pham Van Chi Street to Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard. The project, which carries an estimated investment of VND6.275 trillion, will be funded through public investment and implemented between 2026 and 2028.

In the environmental sector, the Binh Duong Water Environment Improvement Project has a total investment of more than VND7.211 trillion, financed through loans from the World Bank (WB) and the city budget. The project includes the construction of wastewater collection networks and pumping stations, as well as upgrades to the capacity of wastewater treatment plants in Tan Uyen, Thuan An and Di An.

Ho Chi Minh City will also invest in the Cat Lai-Phu Huu Port Connector Road, which will link the Cat Lai and Phu Huu port areas with the interchange connecting the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway and Ring Road 3.

The 5.9-km project is estimated to cost approximately VND8.782 trillion and will be financed through public investment, with implementation scheduled from 2026 to 2028.

Also among the projects is Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, which will have a total length of about 2.16 km and eight traffic lanes. The project is expected to require an investment of more than VND5.063 trillion and is slated for implementation during the 2026–2028 period.

In the social housing sector, the city plans to break ground on the Dinh Hoa Social Housing Project (Zones 3 and 4) in Chanh Hiep Ward, with a total investment of over VND3.226 trillion. The project will provide approximately 4,368 housing units.

In addition, the Viet Sing Social Housing Project (Zones 2 and 7) in An Phu Ward will be developed with a total investment of nearly VND1.59 trillion, delivering more than 1,860 apartments and helping meet the housing needs of local residents and workers.
