Foreign tourists flock to boat rides through floodwaters in Hoi An’s ancient town

(NLĐO) - Rising floodwaters have submerged several streets in Hoi An, and many foreign tourists are opting for boat rides to view the ancient town.

Many streets in Hoi An ancient town, Da Nang City, have been recently submerged due to rising floodwaters.

In the inundated areas, especially near the junction with Bach Dang Street, many residents launched small boats to offer tourist rides, mainly for foreign visitors, giving them a chance to experience gliding through the ancient town during the flood season.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chairman of the Hoi An Ward People’s Committee, said local authorities have advised residents not to operate boat-ride services for tourists during the flood season, and that boats should only be used to evacuate people stranded in inundated areas.

According to Mr. Cuong, many residents have begun offering boat rides because there is tourist demand. However, the boats only carry passengers through flooded sections in the center of the ancient town, where the water is calm and there are no strong currents.
