General Secretary and President To Lam begins his state visit to India

(NLDO) - The visit underscores Vietnam and India’s shared vision and strategic interests, highlighting their orientations and objectives.

At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, General Secretary and President To Lam, accompanied by a high-level Vietnamese delegation, departed Hanoi on May 5 for a state visit to the Republic of India, taking place from May 5 to 7.

This visit represents a major diplomatic event of particular significance. It marks General Secretary and President To Lam’s first trip to India in his new capacity, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2016-2026).

The visit underscores Vietnam’s deep appreciation for its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with India and its broader engagement with the South Asian region. It also provides an important opportunity for both countries to consolidate and expand cooperation across all fields, while reviewing the progress achieved under the Partnership over the past decade.

On this foundation, the two sides aim to generate fresh momentum and shape a forward-looking cooperation framework, elevating Vietnam-India relations to new heights in the years ahea.

In addition, the visit underscores the orientations and objectives of Viet Nam and India in pursuing a shared vision and strategic interests, ensuring that each country remains a substantive priority in the other’s foreign policy.

It also serves as an important occasion for both sides to exchange views on issues of mutual concern and to reinforce their cooperation and support at regional and international forums.

During the visit, General Secretary and President To Lam is scheduled to undertake a wide-ranging program in New Delhi and Mumbai, India’s leading hub of economy, finance, and science-technology.

He will hold discussions with senior Indian leaders on strategic directions to advance cooperation and foster breakthroughs in key areas such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, healthcare, clean energy, infrastructure, and the promotion of people-to-people exchanges, culture, and religion.

Alongside high-level talks and meetings between leaders of the two countries, a series of dynamic and practical activities are expected to take place, including forums on finance, science and technology, and innovation.
