Overseas Vietnamese send messages of love to homeland on National Day

(NLĐO) - In many capitals and major cities, Vietnamese women will simultaneously wear the traditional ao dai in the design of the red flag with a yellow star.

The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just held a press briefing to announce a series of activities by the Vietnamese expatriate community in celebration of the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the Committee, said that the agency is proposing that a delegation of overseas Vietnamese be invited to attend the National Day celebration.

This initiative aims to fulfill the aspirations of overseas Vietnamese who wish to participate in this significant national event, while also honoring their contributions to the country's struggle for independence and its ongoing development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently working with relevant agencies to ensure the successful organization of the National Day celebration.

In addition, from August 13 to 28, a training course for 80 overseas Vietnamese teachers from 15 countries and territories will be held in Hanoi and several localities.

The program aims to enhance teaching quality, pedagogical skills, curriculum design, and activity organization, while also incorporating elements of Vietnamese history and traditional culture. Since 2013, 12 such training courses have been organized, benefiting more than 890 overseas Vietnamese teachers.

As part of the “Vietnamese Language Appreciation Day,” the awards ceremony for the Vietnamese Language Ambassador Contest will take place on August 21 in Hanoi, in conjunction with the “Beloved Vietnamese Language” Gala under the theme “A River that Flows Forever, Connecting All Directions.”

This year’s contest attracted over 50 entries from Vietnamese expatriates around the world, showcasing a wide range of creative expressions—from prose and poetry to multimedia videos. The judging panel will select at least five outstanding participants to serve as Vietnamese Language Ambassadors for 2025.

Also in August, the closing ceremony of the 2025 Vietnamese Language Appreciation Day for the overseas Vietnamese community is scheduled for August 14.

“On this occasion, the Committee invites representatives of the six million overseas Vietnamese to send messages of love to the homeland. These heartfelt messages from the community across five continents will be compiled and presented during the Gala,” said Chairman Nguyen Trung Kien.

Another highlight this month will be the 2025 training program for leaders of overseas Vietnamese associations, taking place from August 28 to 31. The course will provide updates on domestic affairs, foreign policy, legal matters, and organizational leadership skills, contributing to stronger ties between the overseas Vietnamese community and their homeland.

A show of unity and joy

According to Pham Thi Kim Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of National Day, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe will launch a series of events on August 28.

In capitals and major cities of countries such as the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, and Slovakia, Vietnamese women will simultaneously wear the traditional ao dai in the design of the red flag with a yellow star. Cultural and artistic activities, parades, and formations depicting the map of Vietnam will also take place.

These events will be recorded and sent to Vietnam as a show of unity and joy on the nation's major holiday. The Union will also organize a folk singing competition.

Starting August 14, the Union of Vietnamese Youth Organizations in Europe will host a three-day event to bring together young people and students from across the continent for exchanges and networking activities.

On this occasion, the Committee is also sending two art troupes to perform in Sri Lanka and Singapore–Malaysia. These performances will serve both the overseas Vietnamese communities and public diplomacy efforts in the host countries.
