Phu Quoc sees an explosion in international arrivals

The An Giang Provincial Department of Tourism recently reported that in the first ten months of 2025, the province's tourism sector welcomed nearly 24 million visitors, up 27% year-on-year and 14.7% above the annual target. 

Of these, international arrivals reached around 1.9 million (with Phu Quoc alone accounting for more than 1.2 million), marking a 90% increase from the same period last year and exceeding the yearly plan by 55%.

Alongside the surge in visitor numbers, the province's tourism revenue also surpassed its annual target well ahead of schedule. Total tourism receipts reached approximately VND 67.684 trillion, up 91% year-on-year and 72% above the yearly plan.

Notably, in Phu Quoc, tourist numbers have surged to record levels in the final months of the year, with 4–5 star hotels and high-end shophouse rentals operating at nearly full occupancy.

According to representatives of 4–5 star hotel investors in the Bai Khem and Sunset Town areas, hotel occupancy rates surpassed 90% in October and are expected to reach full capacity during the New Year and Lunar New Year holidays.

Many other upscale hotels across Phu Quoc are also seeing strong signs of recovery in the international market. 

Mr. Andy Nguyen, General Manager of Sunset Beach Resort & Spa, said that over the past several months, international guests have consistently accounted for around 90% of the resort's clientele, helping revenue increase by more than 30% compared to the same period last year.

With this momentum, many experts believe that Phu Quoc is entering a new growth cycle similar to the previous "boom" periods seen in Bali (Indonesia) and Phuket (Thailand).

Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the An Giang Department of Tourism, said that in recent years the province has made strong and well-targeted investments in tourism infrastructure, effectively leveraging its strengths in spiritual tourism, eco-tourism and island tourism. 

"Many destinations continue to maintain strong appeal, such as Sam Mountain, the Tra Su cajuput forest, Ha Tien, Hon Son, Nam Du—and especially Phu Quoc.", he said.

"The province's tourism sector is continuing its growth trajectory in the final months of the year while refining its strategy for sustainable and professional development, positioning itself to seize major opportunities from the growing international travel flow into the southwestern region," Mr. Thai added.
