The event was held in response to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, reaffirming the strong commitment, consistent stance, and determined actions of the Government and people of Viet Nam in the fight against human trafficking.
In the first half of this year, law enforcement agencies prosecuted 50 cases involving 178 defendants related to human trafficking while 72 cases with 237 defendants have been resolved and brought to trial.
The main types include human trafficking, accounting for 46.24 percent, trafficking of persons under 16 years old (43 percent), and trafficking or appropriation of human organs or body parts (6.45 percent).
Addressing the ceremony, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh affirmed that the Vietnamese Government places great emphasis on international cooperation with other countries and global efforts in preventing, combating, and prosecuting human trafficking crimes, as well as supporting trafficking victims.
The Southeast Asian nation continues to strengthen public communication and awareness-raising efforts on the prevention of human trafficking, he noted.
Viet Nam is making efforts to implement the objectives of the United Nations Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration to enhance a transparent migration environment, protect the legitimate rights and interests of migrants, and prevent the risks of human trafficking in international migration activities, told the Deputy Prime Minister.
Nguyen asked for effectively managing residence registration and immigration control and closely monitoring population changes related to human trafficking activities.
He underscored the need to strengthen patrols and inspections along borders, while strictly managing telecommunications networks, the Internet, and computer networks to combat human trafficking.
