Latest update on U.S. student visa interview scheduling

Hue Xuan

(NLĐO) - U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce have just provided brief remarks on student visa interview scheduling.

During a press briefing on June 10, when asked whether the temporary suspension of student visa interview scheduling was still in effect, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that interview scheduling would soon resume and that individuals could look for available time slots to book appointments.

Ms Tammy Bruce emphasized that the U.S. policy encouraging international students to apply for student visas has not changed. The recent pause was merely an administrative adjustment intended to ensure that the screening and adjudication processes at embassies and consulates are conducted more thoroughly and in accordance with regulations.

"This screening process will proceed quickly; it is not a prolonged measure. I expect to have more detailed information by this coming Thursday," said Ms Bruce.

Earlier, some individuals reported that they had successfully booked student visa interview appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi around noon on June 10, but by the end of the day, they received notices of cancellation.

The U.S. suspension of student visa renewal applications is significantly affecting various groups, not just new international students or tourists.

Experts currently advise Vietnamese international students to think carefully before deciding to return home.

To ensure safe re-entry into the U.S., the most critical requirement is that your visa remains valid. If your visa has expired or is about to expire, returning to Vietnam now could pose risks and make it difficult to return to the U.S.

Applicants who scheduled their appointments before the U.S. announcement of the suspension will still proceed with their interviews as usual

The suspension of new visa interview scheduling began on May 27.

According to a cable sent to U.S. diplomatic missions worldwide, the U.S. State Department is currently reviewing existing operations and procedures for screening and vetting applicants for student and exchange visas (F, M, J).

Based on that review, the U.S. plans to issue guidance on expanding social media vetting for all applicants.
