Sun Group breaks ground on Phan Thiet Airport

(NLDO) - Phan Thiet Airport breaks ground in Lam Dong, set to transform tourism and investment in Vietnam’s South Central Coast.

On April 27, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, in partnership with Sun Group, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the civil aviation component of the Phan Thiet Airport project.

Situated in Mui Ne Ward, the project carries a total investment of more than VND 3.9 trillion and spans nearly 75 hectares.

The airport is designed to meet 4E standards, enabling it to handle modern wide-body aircraft. In its initial phase, the facility is expected to serve around 2 million passengers annually.

Once operational, the airport is expected to cut travel times considerably from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other major tourism hubs to Mui Ne - Phan Thiet

Notably, the project completed its investment approval procedures and broke ground in just five months, with completion targeted within two years.

At its core is an 18,000-square-meter passenger terminal inspired by Cham culture. The design echoes the iconic Poshanu towers, highlighted by a deep brick-red palette, corbel brick techniques, and a striking 13-tiered vaulted roof system that rises skyward, symbolizing completeness and the aspiration for new journeys.

The apron features six parking stands accommodating both Code E and Code C aircraft, directly connected to the taxiway system. A 45-meter air traffic control tower, equipped with an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) and advanced navigation aids, ensures safe operations in all weather conditions.

Once operational, the airport will dramatically shorten travel times from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other major tourism hubs to Mui Ne–Phan Thiet. It will also be capable of handling non-scheduled international flights, opening the door to direct inflows of overseas visitors.

Beyond aviation, the project is expected to catalyze investment in resort real estate, commercial development, logistics, and aviation services. It is projected to generate thousands of jobs, contribute significantly to Lam Dong Province’s socio-economic growth, and strengthen connectivity across Vietnam’s Southern Key Economic Region.
